DEBUT BOOK

Not a survival guide. Survival itself — pressed into verse and image.
About the Book
Surviving Moo is not a survival guide. It is survival itself — pressed into verse and image.
A photo-poetry collection spanning family, love, loss, society, and obsession. The “moo” is the noise, the herd, the endless loop of joy and struggle we all live inside. To survive it is one thing. To thrive in it is another.
Paired with colour and classic black-and-white photography, these poems invite you to see your own “moo” in them.
Read it in order. Let the emotional whiplash do its work.
About the Author
Based in Los Angeles, California, Laela Duncan is a polymath artist, model, and artrepreneur of Scottish-mix ancestry.
A suicide survivor who lost both her father and her sister, Laela turned profound grief into a mission: honouring her family’s legacy through a deeply intentional, creative life.
Today that mission lives in her poetry, music, dance, acting, and her clothing line, Legacy ARTwear.
She is a member of the Santa Barbara Women’s Club, Women in Film, the Academy of American Poets, and the American Federation of Musicians — and is open to collaborations that shift perspectives and inspire healing and empowerment.
Join the Journey
Beloved friends,
Thank you for your endless support through the trials and tribulations, wins and heartbreaks… it’s been quite the ride, yet here we are, thriving together.
Surviving Moo is my deeply personal debut: verse and visual storytelling woven into a tribute to my family’s legacy.
My hope is that you’ll see parts of yourself in these pages — and come away amused, understood, and a little more connected to yourself and the world.
Fun fact: a few of these poems are also songs. Can you find them? I’ll be posting them weekly — let me know which ones you love! 😉
