A Merciles Life

Awakened by a loud crushing sound at 4 am on a Sunday,

only to find twin tin cans on the side pavement,

splitting, spinning, crushing, smoking.

Plagued with fear, choked with guilt, two-legged sir tip toes with lightning speed,

piercing through the dark shadows,

hysterically, frantically, shamelessly so.

Visions of four witnessing thee,

whispering hands reaching, screaming yet silently be.

I saw beautiful stars reflecting off the ceiling in a box,

my stomach twirling, dancing, nearly fainting.

How merciless life can be?

Seeing, hearing, feeling every beat;

broken, he cried “ayuda! ayuda!”

Gently yet strongly held a pillow;

A seemingly lifeless charm in his arms.

Who is Adie? I wonder.

Bright reds & blues fill the air;

I refused to see!

My heart is holding me,

Soothing me, protecting me.

I was saved by loving hands,

with thinned breath in a tiny paper bag.

Wet chills running in a marathon,

My hands tingling, galaxies twinkling.

How merciless can life truly be?!

We are trapped in its infinite cycles;

and yet, we are rescued by thee.

Only YOU can be.
